New Pacific islands publication seeks submissions from writers

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A new publication focused on the Pacific is looking for submissions for its inaugural issue, the Pacific Islands Development Program’s Pacific Islands Report announced in a press release.

PIDP’s new publication, Visions & Voices, is looking to publish articles, written commentary, essays or short manuscripts.

“As we invite submissions to Visions & Voices, we recognize the urgent need to facilitate communication on issues relevant to the Pacific islands. In the vast sea of media, this publication aims to serve as a beacon, illuminating stories and voices vital to our region,” said Mary Hattori, director of the Pacific Islands Development Program.

The deadline to submit pieces is March 31.

The program is looking for work that is relevant to the islands of Micronesia, Melanesia or Polynesia, according to the release.

This first issue is also looking for pieces that center around the theme of Tides of Change in the Pacific islands. In its announcement for submissions, PIDP expanded on the meaning behind the theme stating, “Dive into the tides of change across the Pacific islands. Share your submission on any topic relevant to the region. How does your exploration contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamic issues we face in the Pacific islands region, and what insights or solutions might inform how we navigate these tides of change?”

Submissions should be between 800 and 1,200 words and should be geared toward a general audience, according to PIDP. Send submissions by email to [email protected]. Details about submissions are available at pireport.org/submissions.

The Pacific Islands Development Program at the East-West Center is a nonprofit organization based in Hawaii that provides leadership training, policy analysis, research and other services, with a focus on the islands of the Pacific, according to the release.
