CITING the example set by acting Labor and Immigration Secretary Joaquin A. Tenorio, the administration will also reduce the cellular phone expenses of other departments and agencies.
Special Assistant for Administration Thomas A. Tebuteb said an official policy on cellular phone use will be issued on Friday.
On Tuesday, Tebuteb issued a memorandum limiting the expenses of each government-issued cell phone to $100 a month. Gov. Juan N. Babauta issued a similar directive to all employees of his office.
Tebuteb also requested the different department and agency heads to submit recommendations before the policy is issued on April 19.
The governor’s special policy advisor, Robert Schwalbach, said Tenorio’s decision to curb the use of cellular phones should be implemented in all departments and agencies.
“Dr. Tenorio’s effort is really leading the way,” Schwalbach told Variety.
Tenorio terminated 23 of DOLI’s 100 individual telephone lines, and six of its 12 cellular phones. This will result in annual savings of $20, 856, Tenorio said.
