New San Roque fire station to break ground in December

When Typhoon Soudelor slammed into Saipan in Aug. 2015, it destroyed many homes and buildings — including the San Roque Fire station, he added.

Gersonde said then-DFEMS Commissioner Claudio K. Norita met with the Department of Public Lands and Tom Liu of Westlake Motors to discuss the land lease for the property where the existing San Roque fire station is located.

Westlake Motors has agreed to build a new fire station with a public benefit value of $500,000, Gersonde added.

He said Westlake officials have also met with DFEMS Commissioner Dennis C. Mendiola to discuss the planning, permitting and construction of the new fire station.

“The groundbreaking for the construction is anticipated in December and it will be completed in 2022,” Gersonde said.

The new fire station will be located north of the old La Fiesta Mall.
