Public School System officials also helped supervise and monitor the opening of classes.
On Rota, associate commissioner Jackie Quitugua assisted school officials.
This was the first time in six years that PSS sent an official to monitor the opening of classes on Rota, Rota Junior High School principal Maria S. Quitugua told Variety.
Associate commissioner James Peter Le’au was on Tinian for the same reason.
“Definitely wonderful and the students and teachers were excited and happy,” principal Quitugua said, referring to the opening of classes.
Rota Junior High School is now known as “Dr. Rita-Hocog Inos Junior High School.”
But the unveiling of the new name will be held in October.
Tinian Junior High School principal Julian Hofschneider said their school opening was “terrific and good.”
Hofschneider said he also met Le’au who supervised the opening of classes on Tinian.
Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School principal Charlotte DLG. Camacho said they had a “very positive” atmosphere during the first day of school.
This school year, she said, their enrolment increased from 210 to 230 students.
Saipan Southern High School’s new principal Jesse Tudela said they opened the classes “on time” and “there’s no chaos and lining up of students.”
Martin Dalsaso, the new principal of the San Antonio Elementary School, said the students and teachers were very excited.
“I’m excited to be here and there are a lot of good things happening in the school. I’m confident and optimistic that this going to be a productive school year,” he told Variety.
But he has one concern regarding Building C which needs to be renovated.
Dalsaso said he aims to improve the school’s quality of instruction and the tools provided to teachers and staff so they can improve student learning at all levels.
Hopwood Junior High School principal Jonas Barcinas said they had been preparing since last week for the opening of classes.
“Everything is under control and we have not received any complaints from students and parents,” he said.
“Students are ready to learn and everybody in the school are working hard,” he added.
