DESPITE delays in construction work, authorities say two new schools will be ready for the August opening of classes.
The Public School System’s capital improvement project office said in a report to the Board of Education that Koblerville High School, which is proposed to be named Saipan Southern High School, would be finished in June.
Kagman Junior High School, which will be the first CNMI middle school, would be completed within July.
PSS-CIP project manager of construction, Don Dolenec, said the interior of the Koblerville classroom is projected to be completed on June 1, while the estimate completion for the exterior is on June 15.
According to Dolenec, the building exterior is 90 percent complete, but landscaping, rough and finish grading have not started.
Dolenec said collateral equipment “without student desks, teacher desks and chairs” had been ordered and would arrive on June 5.
Chairs and desks would arrive on July 1 and computers would be ordered and installed prior to school opening.
The $4.7 million Koblerville school project was supposed to be completed last January.
The school’s construction work began in Jan. 2001.
According to PSS, the contractor of Kagman High School has asked for time extension, which is still under review.
Its anticipated contract completion is July 2002.
“The general plan is to hand over portions of the facility to PSS as they become ready,” Dolenec said.
Furniture and computers will be installed prior to the opening of classes, he said.
