New SHEFA board member sworn in

The oath-taking ceremony was witnessed by SHEFA board chairman Oscar M. Babauta, board members Juan “Shine” Tenorio, Francisco Cabrera, Ray Muna as well as SHEFA administrator Merissa Rasa in the mayor’s conference room.

In an interview, Demapan said she will help provide more financial assistance to qualified local students, including those who want to enroll at the Northern Marianas Trades Institute and Northern Marianas College.

Demapan said she will be a member of the policy and procedures committee chaired by the late Ursula Lifoifoi-Aldan.

Apatang nominated Demapan to the SHEFA board after Lifoifoi-Aldan passed away in Sept. 2019.

“I hope to be able to fulfill the duties that she was able to do because she was a very special part of SHEFA,” said Demapan, who is an early intervention counselor at Northern Marianas College.

“I’m not here just to represent Northern Marianas College, but also our community on Saipan and the Northern Islands,” she added.

Demapan will serve the remainder of Lifoifoi-Aldan’s term, which ends in July 2021.
