The new protocol requires returning residents to undergo Covid-19 testing at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport and on the fifth day after their arrival.
Muna said the two latest Covid-19 cases involved two returning residents.
On the first day of their arrival, they were released for self-quarantine after specimens were collected from them. They were also provided self-quarantine guidelines, and were asked to wear a face mask, practice social distancing and restrict their exposure.
“They followed the instructions given to them,” Muna said. “In their interview, we found out that they did limit their movement. That is good for us…but we are still continuing with the contact tracing discussion and investigation.”
The two individuals arrived on Saipan on Saturday. Specimen was collected, and they were released on the same day. Both were quarantined at their own homes.
When they tested positive, the individuals were brought to Kanoa Resort for isolation. They are both asymptomatic, Muna said.
“This system works for us. We are able to identify quickly who is positive. Those who are landing on our borders are being tested right away and we get the result before the end of the day,” she added.
