PINA supports the strong condemnation of the attack by its national association, the Media Asosiesen blong Vanuatu.
PINA is concerned that the perpetrators are members of the Correctional Services and calls on the Vanuatu government and the police to bring the culprits to justice.
The attack is over a recent editorial by Neil Jones calling for the suspension of the acting director general of the Correctional Services Department, Joshua Bong, for his handling of the recent prison riots and outbreaks in Vila.
The safety of media practitioners in the region is paramount and security forces must never harass, intimidate or physically attack journalists who go about doing their lawful business, PINA stated.
