NMC applies for federal grant

NMC, she added, has already sent an application to the U.S. Department of Education for the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education or TEACH grant program.

The college is now awaiting a notification from USDOE.

Those who receive a TEACH grant will have to teach full time for four years.

Otherwise, it will be considered a student loan.

In her report to the NMC board, Hart said the college’s financial aid officer will assist interested students.

NMC, she added, is hoping to get the TEACH grant for the spring 2012 semester.

Hart at the same time said NMC and the Public School System recently met to discuss the training of teacher aides.

Yesterday, key NMC personnel conducted an advising and application session at  Garapan Elementary school for 58 teacher aides of PSS.

The purpose of the program was to determine how many would be able to take classes during  spring semester 2012 to complete an AA degree in liberal arts or a BS degree in education.
