“NMC’s program review process was highly instrumental in leading the college to accreditation reaffirmation,” said Cyndi Deleon Guerrero, NMC dean of academic programs and services.
With NMC’s accreditation reaffirmed, the faculty and staff reflected on the hard work done since the college was placed on show cause status in Feb. 2008, she said.
The professional development week aimed to help NMC employees achieve professional growth through customized training, workshops, and presentations, she added.
This year’s activities focused on the college’s program review cycle, a process in which departments evaluate the progress of their goals and activities since the beginning of the review cycle.
“We want to ensure that our faculty and staff maintain the momentum that led us to reaffirmation, while at the same time introduce new employees to the process,” Deleon Guerrero said.
The professional development event featured discussions led by visiting program assessment professionals Dr. Mary Allen and Dr. Fred Trapp.
Both met individually with department heads and managers to answer questions or concerns.
Allen had visited the college on a number of occasions in the past to share her extensive knowledge on the program review process with NMC students, staff and faculty.
NMC President Carmen Fernandez said its “program assessment efforts are highly sustainable precisely because we continue to build staff and faculty capacities in numerous areas.”
During professional development week, she said NMC’s Human Resources Office elaborated on instructions and procedures for the timely preparation and submission of faculty and staff evaluations.
The Office of Admissions and Records facilitated a presentation on the rules and regulations of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
A presentation from Counseling Programs & Services concluded the first day while a time management workshop concluded the second.
Allen and Trapp made their presentations on the next two days.
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness, for its part, conducted a brief workshop on the college’s program review and assessment process.
The faculty and staff members from individual programs also met with peer reviewers to discuss the feedback they received from NMC’s Planning and Program Review Outcomes Assessment Committee regarding their program evaluation documents.
