Ada, a government retiree, has already completed her short-term contract.
Her replacement is Martin T. Mendiola, who will now be responsible for overseeing seven departments: finance and budget, bookstore, maintenance, operations, human resources, procurement and property management as well as student financial aid.
NMC President Carmen Fernandez said Mendiola’s appointment is important in meeting the college’s accreditation requirements.
“(His) appointment is timely and vital as we move forward with NMC’s effort to obtain full accreditation,” said Fernandez, adding that Mendiola “brings a wealth of knowledge, talent, and experience to the…position.”
Mendiola served as the program coordinator for the NMC Rota site.
He has held management positions throughout the government serving as resident director of commerce on Rota in 2005; special assistant for projects for the Rota Mayor’s Office in 2000; administrative officer for the Division of Public Lands on Rota in 1998; special assistant to then-Rota Rep. Alejo M. Mendiola in 1997; researcher for the Rota Municipal Council in 1996; principal of George Washington High School on Guam; and assistant principal for Simon A. Sanchez High School, Inarajan Middle School, F.B.L.G Middle School, all on Guam, from 1987-1996.
A graduate of George Washington High School on Guam, Mendiola attended classes at University of Guam and later went on to the Western Michigan University where he received his B.A. in social sciences and secondary teaching.
He received his master’s degree in educational leadership in 1977 from Western Michigan University.
“Over the last several months, the college has been actively searching for a permanent [chief financial and administrative officer]. However, in the interim we are confident in Mendiola’s ability to carry out the important duties of [his new position],” Fernandez said.
