NMC looks forward to accreditation team visit

The purpose of the visit is to follow up on the plans the college submitted in its 2006 Self Study Report.

“We look forward to the accreditation team’s visit and to sharing the momentous accomplishments that the college has achieved,” NMC President Carmen Fernandez said.

The visiting team will also follow up on the progress the college has made in resolving team and commission recommendations for improvement, she said.

Earlier this month, the college submitted its Mid-Term Report to the WASC-ACCJC.

As required by their accreditation, all institutions must submit periodic reports to the commission and the mid-term report is normally due in the third year following the evaluation team’s visit, Fernandez said.

The college’s accreditation was  reaffirmed by the ACCJC in its June 2009 meeting.

To prepare for the team visit, NMC officials are continuing the work they initiated when the college was placed on show cause status in Jan. 2008, Fernandez said.

“We have not relented in our efforts to continue the work we started two years ago,” she said.

This work included linking planning, program review, and resource allocation; institutionalizing a systematic program review process; developing, measuring, and analyzing student learning outcomes; enhancing employee evaluation processes; securing funding to address short and long term facilities’ needs; and building administrative capacity through the recruitment of highly qualified staff and recurring professional development opportunities.

The visiting team is scheduled to meet with various individuals and groups at the college, including the president, the leaders of constituent groups and members of the college’s shared governance groups.
