Last month, the dean of academic programs and services, Debra Cabrera, and the director of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Wil Castro resigned.
“We are very appreciative of Dr. Carebra’s and Wil’s contributions,” Fernandez said. “They have played important roles at the college, especially in helping to enhance our planning and program review processes.”
Fernandez said she is confident that NMC’s Academics Programs and Services Department and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness are facilitating a smooth transition while new replacements are recruited and hired.
“Highly skilled and trained individuals have been stepping up to the plate to ensure that the critical work of these two departments continue,” she said.
The college, she added is actively engaged in a search for replacements.
Fernandez is confident that the new dean of academic programs and services and director of institutional effectiveness will “provide the leadership necessary to support the college’s continuing growth and success.”
She said she and her management team are gearing up for the upcoming fall semester and preparing many new activities for students.
“In the spirit of ‘Students First,’ we are initiating many activities that will directly benefit students,” Fernandez said.
She said the stimulus funding approved President Obama has presented the college with many opportunities.
Plans are being mobilized to modernize, repair, and renovate the classrooms at NMC so that students can learn in state of the art facilities, she added.
Fernandez said employees, for their part, are undergoing several professional development activities to enhance the qualifications and effectiveness of NMC faculty and staff.
These activities will also improve the quality of academic standards at the college, she said.
“We are also strengthening the technology infrastructure at the college in many ways,” Fernandez added.
“We’re moving aggressively to deliver the highest quality education and service to our students,” she said.
