NMC, NMTech express support for Flores, reaffirm partnership with PSS

THE chief executives of Northern Marianas College and the Northern Marianas Technical Institute congratulated and pledged their support for Interim Commissioner of Education Donna M. Flores as they also reaffirmed their partnership with the Public School System.

In a statement, NMC President Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero praised Flores for her “compassionate commitment and work ethic.”

“I have worked with Ms. Flores on a number of projects, and I have seen for myself both her compassionate commitment to serving those most in need and her diligent work ethic,” Deleon Guerrero said.

“Her extensive experience and rigorous expertise will serve our students and community well as she takes on this new role. We here in the Proa Tribe [NMC] wish her the best and stand ready to assist her and our public school colleagues as we all sail ahead with a focus on learning and lifting the tide for everyone,” Deleon Guerrero added.

NMTech Chief Executive Officer Jodina Attao, for her part, said: “We at NMTech extend a heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Donna Flores on her appointment as interim COE.”

Attao added, “We are excited to continue our work [as partners] and we look forward to innovative ideas and progressive initiatives as we work hand in hand in shaping our educational landscape.”

“Taking on such a prestigious role is a testament to your dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to the field of education,” Attao told Flores. “I have no doubt that together, we will overcome challenges and seize opportunities as we serve our CNMI! Again, congratulations and welcome aboard.”

Flores, the current director of PSS Special Education Program, assumed her additional responsibility on Sept. 2 following the resignation of former Commissioner Dr. Alfred B. Ada due to health reasons.

In February last year, NMC, NMTech and PSS launched a technical education and professional development training program aimed at engaging PSS and NMTech teachers “to learn more about learners’ needs inclusive of student mental, emotional, [and] physical health.” They vowed to create “an engaging and innovative learning environment by transforming their teaching methodology to herald an interactive and robust class culture as well as utilizing technology to foster meaningful learning.”

A month later, NMTech signed a memorandum of understanding with PSS “to help high school students gain exposure to the various career pathways available to them through the Trading Up Program.”

In June this year, and as a result of this partnership, 89 students received their certificates of completion in construction and hospitality.
