Lizama told NMC Interim President Lorraine T. Cabrera the regents should be provided the necessary information from her office.
“It’s nice for the regents to be made aware of what’s going on,” he said.
Lizama said transparency is their priority.
In anticipation of the arrival of the new president, Dr. Sharon Hart, on July 4, an NMC transition team has been created composed of college deans, Cabrera said.
“They are the ones who directly reports to the president,” she added.
The president of the faculty senate, representatives of staff and students are also on the team.
Cabrera said the college has already prepared for the official introduction of the new NMC president in July.
Hart will be introduced to the NMC family, the college foundation, donors, the governor, lawmakers, the Rotary Club, the Saipan Chamber of Commerce and other members of the community.
Regent William S. Torres, for his part, said the NMC leadership, especially the regents, should consistently inform the public about college issues.
“We need to be consistent about it and we should do it regularly because the public needs to be informed. Let us be proactive rather than reactive on a lot of issues,” he added.
In 2009, the NMC leadership held a public gathering during its announcement on reaffirmation of the college’s accreditation that invite community, including the legislature, to report about the institution governance and performance.
