NMC presidential search committee announces criteria

“We want to be fair to everybody,” said Regent Paz C. Younis, the committee chairwoman, during yesterday’s press conference.

She said the committee is also considering hiring a consultant who will conduct a background check on  the three finalists.

“We need professional service in that area,” she added.

By September, the committee will submit three candidates to the board of regents, she said.

The deadline for the submission of applications is Aug. 9, but the committee may extend it if there are not enough applicants.

An applicant must have, at least, a master’s degree from a U.S.-accredited university, plus five years of executive level management experience in an institution of higher education or other relevant organization.

An applicant can also have a combination of at least five years of executive level management, including post-secondary education teaching experience.

The applicant must have experience in a multicultural environment, accreditation process, personnel management, budget development and presentation, strategic planning, institutional assessment, fundraising mediation and team building.

He or she must have knowledge about federal programs and grants  in higher education.

Preference  will be given to applicants with:

• Doctoral degree holders in education administration or related field from a U.S.-accredited institution;

• Five years or more experience in an executive position in higher education administration or related fields;

• Three years or more of teaching experience in postsecondary education;

• Knowledge of technology used in higher education; and,

• Considerable experience with Asia-Pacific island cultures.

Younis said her committee received inputs from the community, students and staff.

“We have so many challenges but I think this committee will find a person that will able to meet these challenges,” she added.

The NMC president will receive $80,000 a year plus benefits.

Applications will be reviewed immediately after the 30-day announcement period.

Applicants with non-U.S. degrees are responsible for providing an official evaluation of their degrees to determine U.S. equivalency, Younis said.

An application should include a curriculum vitae indicating  competencies in organizational strategy, resource management, communication, collaboration, college advocacy,  professionalism, official transcripts and list of published journal work or scholarly research.

The applicant must have three personal and three professional references, and four letters of professional recommendations.

The complete application packages and documents should be sent by certified priority mail and must be received by the closing date.

The other committee members present during yesterday’s press conference were John Manalo, Sam McPhetres, Pam Buckingham, Clarice Arriola, Edward Manibusan and Mindy Park.
