NMC receives ‘above and beyond’ employer award

The presentation of the award was made at the employer gala awards held at the Saipan World Resort.

The ESGR is a Department of Defense agency that seeks to develop and promote a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their employees. It does so by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through mediation.

Staff and volunteers of ESGR inform and educate service members and their civilian employers regarding their rights and responsibilities under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.

The “Chairman’s Above and Beyond Award” is given to employers who have gone above and beyond the requirements of USERAA. The recipients are personally chosen by the state chair, retired Army Maj. Gen. Benny Paulino.

Interim NMC President Lorraine T. Cabrera was present at the awards ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the college.

“We are extremely honored to receive this award,” said Cabrera. “We will continue to support our service members in all the ways we can.”

In his message, Paulino said: “By acknowledging employers’ support of the Guard and Reserve members, the Department of Defense takes a proactive stance in promoting support. It strengthens community relationships and it provides positive examples to all employers of the many ways to demonstrate support of the nation’s Guam and Reserve service members.”

According to Paulino, Guam and Reserve members represent almost half of the nation’s total military strength including 2,600 men and women from Guam and the CNMI.
