NMC was again placed under show cause status by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Galvin Deleon Guerrero, NMC Office of Institutional Effectiveness director and accreditation liaison officer, yesterday said the management team includes representation from all constituent groups at the college — faculty, staff and students.
The presidents of the Faculty Senate, the Staff Senate and the Associated Students of Northern Marianas College will be part of the management team.
The action plan will require the support and participation of everyone at the college, Deleon Guerrero said.
The newly restructured team has already met twice to deliberate on ideas and proposals that will go into the action plan.
“While I am off-island on personal leave for family reasons, I have participated in both of these meetings via Skype teleconferencing and will continue to do so until I return,” he told Variety.
He said the team is developing an action plan that will address the three areas of concern conveyed by the accrediting commission: institutional autonomy from outside interference, institutional financial management and integrity, and institutional governance and accountability.
Deleon Guerrero said he will meet with commission staff this week in Novato, California.
NMC wants to clarify the commission’s concerns and gain more insight into what the college must do to have its full accreditation reaffirmed, he added.
