“There are challenges ahead, but none that we cannot overcome,” she added.

She assured that the faculty and staff are fully prepared for the start of the Spring 2010 semester.

NMC’s accreditation liaison officer and director of institutional effectiveness, Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero, said the college remains diligent in meeting accreditation standards and maintaining full accreditation status.

“The college has made significant progress to get to this point and we will not yield in our efforts to carry out the college’s mission of improving the quality of life for everyone in the CNMI,” Cabrera said.

She was named interim president by the board of regents after it suspended NMC President Carmen Fernandez.

During the transition period, Cabrera said she will continue to reach out to faculty and staff to ensure that the college will remain focused on student learning and a successful Spring 2010 semester.

“We will also continue to move forward with our accreditation activities, including the completion of the third cycle of program review and the proposal to offer new academic programs in early childhood and special education programs,” Cabrera said.

She said the college will continue to carry on with the assessment of student performance as part of the program review process.

“The college is comprised of highly professional and motivated employees whose chief priority is making sure that students advance in their academic journey,” she added.

Deleon Guerrero said an important part of the program review process involves using the results to develop institutional priorities that will inform budgeting and planning decision-making.
