THE newly elected officers of the Associated Students of Northern Marianas College aim to work closely with the college administration and the government to ensure more funding for student welfare programs including scholarships.
ASNMC President Nathan Sablan, during the group’s inauguration on Friday, said he intends to prioritize increasing student fund for more student-oriented activities as well as for more scholarships.
“We want to provide more services to students. We’ll have more activities. We’ll work actively for increased student fund and availability of more scholarship grants,” he said in an interview.
He said his team would work with the lawmakers, among others, to achieve the goals.
Sablan said the association would also prioritize the establishment of daycare centers on campus to serve students who have small children.
He said NMC students have been clamoring for the creation of daycare facility centers.
“We have to respond to students’ needs. Giving them a facility for their children would be a lot more convenient for them,” he said. Sablan, a liberal arts student, won in the recently concluded election for this year’s ASNMC officers.
Other officers are Mayumi Aguon as vice president, Jack Kiyoshi as secretary and Jerry Q. Pangelinan as treasurer.
