The group was divided in two teams. The morning shift worked from 8 a.m. until 12 while the afternoon shift took over from 1 until 5 p.m. Some stayed for the whole day.
Over 25 students participated. They were equipped with machetes, rakes, shovel, brooms, and grass-cutters. A couple of kind-hearted citizens offered the students doughnuts and water.
The students vigorously cleaned one area after the next, cutting down the overgrown grass and the vines that had settled at the historic site.
“It’s fun to get out of the confines of the classroom and be able to do something that makes a difference in the community,” said one of students participating in the cleanup.
