The 80-page report was sent electronically to WASC yesterday, which was the deadline set by the commission.
The report details how the college has complied with the recommendations and concerns identified in the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges’ Jan. 31, 2008, which asked NMC to show cause why its accreditation should not be rescinded.
“Today is a great day for the college,” said NMC President Carmen Fernandez during her presentation to the board. “We are submitting to the commission the evidence of all the efforts undertaken by students, staff, faculty, and board members.”
She added, “We’re greatly thankful for the outpour of support that we have received from the community through the last few months, especially from Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and his administration, Senate President Pete P. Reyes, Speaker Arnold I. Palacios, the members of the Legislature, and Washington Rep. Pete A. Tenorio.”
The board members expressed gratitude to all who those had taken part in preparing the “impressive” report.
“We are extremely pleased with the contents of the…report, which is a product of many months of hard work and dedication put forth by students, staff, faculty and board members,” said NMC Chairman Charles Cepeda.
“We look forward to the arrival of [the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges] delegation next month so they can see first hand the progress we have made to meet accreditation standards.”
A decision regarding the college’s accreditation will be announced by the commission in Jan. 2009.
