NORTHERN Marianas College will confer 267 degrees today, Friday, May 17, 2024 during its 43rd Commencement Exercises at the Marianas High School gymnasium at 4 p.m.
“We are extremely proud of our graduates,” NMC President Galvin Deleon Guerrero, EdD said. “Today is a testament to their resilience, dedication, and boundless potential, and we congratulate them for all they have achieved to become the newest stewards of our community.”
NMC will confer degrees in education, liberal arts, natural resource management, nursing, business administration, business management, criminal justice, and hospitality management.
“Despite the challenges posed by global crises, geopolitical tensions, social unrest, economic uncertainties, and personal struggles that hit close to home, our graduates have overcome so much to get their degrees,” Deleon Guerrero said. “Our Proa Tribe is very proud to see them enter our workforce as leaders to lift the tide for everyone in our community.”
The proa — the Chamorros’ traditional voyaging canoe — is NMC’s mascot.
Among the highlights of the graduation ceremony is the awards presentation, including the academic achievement awards to recognize students with the highest grade point average. The Leadership Award will be presented by the governor.
This year’s keynote speaker is U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan.
The graduates selected “Anchored in knowledge. Sailing towards dreams.” for their graduation theme.
Family and friends who are off-island or are unable to attend the commencement exercises in person can watch the event online. The ceremony will be livestreamed on NMC’s Facebook Page (nmc.proa) and YouTube page.
