NMC to finalize accreditation reaffirmation action plan

Galvin Deleon Guerrero, Office of Institutional Effectiveness director and NMC’s accreditation liaison officer, said the management team already met three times to work on the plan.

Even when the management team is not meeting, its subcommittees  continue the work, he said.

Deleon Guerrero participated in the board of regents’ regular meeting on Friday through teleconference.

He was in San Francisco to meet with the staff of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges regarding the sanction imposed on the college.

Deleon Guerrero said the management team will meet again this week when he returns to the island to review the work of the subcommittees.

He declined to discuss his meeting with the WASC staff, citing  the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges’ policy on public disclosure.

“NMC must maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality with ACCJC at this juncture in the accreditation process,” he told Variety in an e-mail.

“While the management team works furiously to get accreditation reaffirmed, much of our work is still preliminary at the time being,” he said.

On Friday, the board of regents reviewed some new policies that aim to address the concerns raised in the WASC report.

The report, for example, noted the lack of civility among board members, as well as a lack of board training and knowledge.

The seven board members are appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the CNMI Senate.
