Aside from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Aid and the CNMI Scholarship Program, students can avail of NMC’s student support services program, she added.
NMC, on a case by case basis, allows students to pay 50 percent of its tuition fee as down payment and the remaining balance can be paid on installment basis, Tenorio said.
“We just like to emphasize the college is willing to assist the students,” she added.
The Americorps program, for its part, offers scholarships to college students who participate in community service, said Annie Santos, NMC service learning program coordinator.
For every 300 hours of service the student is rewarded a $1,000 voucher that can be used to pay tuition.
Santos said 450 hours of service is equivalent to a $1,250 voucher while 900 hours is equal to $2,362.
The students can perform community service in education, public safety, environmental initiatives, community development and human services, Santos said, adding that some students even work at the Office of the Aging or at the Commonwealth Health Center.
“While the students gain experience and learn from their community services they also earn money,” she said.
The program started last year and currently has 25 students, she added.
