NMC upbeat on distance learning project

Recently, she said NMC hired Amanda Allen as the new distance learning coordinator for the  information technology department.

“We are very extremely pleased to welcome Amanda to the college,” Cabrera told Variety.

She said  Allen’s professional background and experience will prove valuable to NMC’s distance learning initiatives.

Allen will be responsible for the development and implementation of the college’s distance learning project, Cabrera said.

Through the distance learning project, Allen will be working with NMC faculty and off-island education partners to facilitate online learning experiences by employing various strategies.

Allen will develop policies and procedures for distance learning, and implement new curricula in the fields of technology, business, and health sciences, she added.

Cabrera said Allen will be responsible for facilitating training sessions in online distance learning and for supervising course development, student retention, and faculty support for instruction through distance learning technology.

Allen took over the position left vacant by Bertha Leon Guerrero, who, Cabrera said, played an instrumental role in implementing the inter-island distance learning network.

Allen was most recently a computer teacher at Saipan Community School and an adjunct faculty member for Argosy University.

She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in management from Oakland City University in Indiana.

Allen has over four years of teaching experience — three of which she has spent teaching technology.

In 2007, Allen taught English courses in Bremen, Germany to professional business employees and high school level students.

In her official statement, Allen said she “appreciate receiving this opportunity to apply my skills to their full potential.”
