NMHC wants to fund rehabilitation of 3 buildings at GTC school

According to its 2008 annual action plan, NMHC said the GTC are “in dire need of reconstruction due to termite infestation.”

This, it added, “poses an enormous safety and health issue for students and staff.”

At MHS, the construction of the new Bldg. J is already 80 percent complete and will be ready for use when classes start in September.

NMHC, through a federal Community Development Block Grant, provided  MHS $900,000 for the construction and equipment of  Bldg. J.

NMHC has also set its eyes on Garapan.

“The village of Garapan, where several abandoned buildings exist, has been identified as a priority, as it is both a business district and residential area,” NMHC stated.

The village population reached 2,714 of whom 2,174 or 80.1 percent were low-moderate income, NMHC added.

The other projects initiated and completed by NMHC in program year 2007 through the use of federal grants were the NMI-Japan Cultural Center Food Court; the covered walkway of Rota High School; and the rehabilitation of the one-million-gallon water reservoir on Capital Hills which serves a population of 6,366, of whom 3,984 or 62.6 percent were low-income earners.
