Babauta said in a press conference that before Interior and the U.S. Department of Energy can fund alternative energy “hardware” for the CNMI, its stakeholders must create a comprehensive plan.
Yesterday’s press conference at the governor’s office was also attended by a team from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory team.
The team said hydro-kinetic, solar and wind turbines are among the renewable energy sources that can be tapped by the CNMI.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial said he will continue to advocate for geothermal power.
Also yesterday, Babauta announced the awarding of a $3 million grant for the rehabilitation of Commonwealth Utilities Corp. power plants; $1.9 million in Compact-Impact aid; and $93,750 for the well optimization and well site hardening project of the Water Task Force.
