NMI Republicans say they have national party’s ear

CNMI  Republicans were reacting to the statement of acting Gov. Eloy S. Inos who said U.S. Republicans have nothing to offer the commonwealth.

In an email yesterday, NMI Republican National Committeeman Roman T. Palacios said “history has shown that Republicans do in fact work best with Republicans.”

The same is true with the Democrats.

He said being a member of a national party is an “immense opportunity to get your foot in the door.”

The U.S. Republicans and Democrats each have their own caucuses, Palacios said.

U.S. Republicans, he noted, control the House of Representatives in the U.S., and are poised to “take back” the Senate and have an “enormous opportunity” to win the White House next year.

That is the team to work with, Palacios said, referring to U.S. Republicans.

He noted at the same time that  this year alone, according to the U.S. Treasury Department, America will run a $1.4 trillion budget deficit which will increase the national debt to $14.66 trillion.

Spending over $800 billion in stimulus funds failed to improve the economy and create new jobs, Palacios added.

Only after it was shown to not produce jobs that the Obama administration argued that the stimulus law actually “saved” jobs and to this day still struggles to explain how it precisely does that, he said.

Palacios also wants to make it clear that Republicans in the U.S. Congress are not targeting cuts for the CNMI or the other territories exclusively.

The truth is, he said, they are making difficult decisions on federal spending so that “we can afford to continue funding programs that are most basic for all of us like Medicare, Social Security and Defense.”

This, he said, is the reason the CNMI needs to “stay engaged and keep a close and continuing dialogue with members of U.S. Congress.”

As members of the national party, the Republicans here, he said, are engaged with the high levels Republican leadership in Washington, D.C. on issues that are important to the CNMI.
