Deleon Guerrero, Ind.-Saipan, in an interview said the House Committee on Federal and Foreign Relations, which he chairs, will bring the CNMI’s concerns to the State Department.
His committee, he said, is fine-tuning the resolution he intends to introduce in the CNMI House of Representatives, asking U.S. House Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife Chairwoman Madeleine Bordallo, D-Gu., to reject Interior’s report to the U.S. Congress.
Interior recommends the granting of improved status to long-term guest workers in the CNMI, which the commonwealth government opposes.
Deleon Guerrero said the CNMI is a U.S. commonwealth like Puerto Rico and should be treated the same way.
His committee will meet this week to compile more arguments against Interior’s report.
“We will be very diligent and will leave no stone unturned,” Deleon Guerrero said.
