NMI vehicle sales down 20%

BRAND new vehicle sales have gone down by 20.22 percent during the first half of 2002 compared to the same period last year, latest data from the Commonwealth Auto Dealers’ Association showed.

From January to June, CADA sold only 434 cars, vans, trucks and sports utility vehicles—a sharp drop from the 544 units sold during the first half of 2001.

Carlos P. Camacho, CADA president, is satisfied with June sales of 84 units, noting that there were 87 units sold during the same month last year.

“That is a good sign and we hope this sales momentum carries forward for the rest of year,” Camacho told Variety.

CADA also expects that the release of refund and rebate checks would boost car sales.

Microl Corp., the local authorized distributor of Toyota and GM vehicles, posted a 30.25 percent drop in sales for the first six months of the year—or from 238 last year to only 166 this year.

Triple J Motors posted a 32.67 percent increase in sales for the first six months of 2002, versus the same period in 2001.

It sold 134 brand new Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Suzuki units between January and June.

Joeten Motors sold a total of 134 units of Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia—a 34.31 percent decline from last year.

CADA also sold 248 units of second-hand or used vehicles between January and June. In June, 49 second-hand units were sold.
