NMI youth ready to vote

Frank Reyes, Northern Marianas College liberal arts student, said he is going to vote for candidates he is closely related to.

“I owe everything to my relatives and I am going to vote for them,” he added.

For the gubernatorial race, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has his vote.

A criminal justice student who calls herself “Boobz” agrees with Reyes and believes that “the economy will get better if the Covenant Party wins the elections.”

But a Marianas High School student, who requested anonymity, said former Sen. Juan T. Guerrero is the better candidate, while Jamie Sablan, a graduate of Saipan Southern High School, said Rep. Heinz S. Hofschneider is the best bet.

According to Sablan, the youth must vote not because of blood ties but because he or she believes that the person is worth voting for.

An NMC student, who declined to be identified, said she will vote for former Sen. Ramon S. Deleon Guerrero, who promised lower power rates.

Other student voters interviewed by this reporter stressed the importance of participating in the Nov. 7 polls.

Criminal justice student Genesis Ranjo believes that the right to vote must be exercised because “it helps people choose the right leader for the right job.”

“Voting is important because [who will lead] depends on the people’s choice,” his schoolmate, who refused to be identified, added.
