No activities for Guam-NMI group this year due to Covid-19, says Saipan mayor

AMIM was supposed to hold a convention on Saipan last year, but it was cancelled due to the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yutu. This year’s convention was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Apatang said.

Other members of the AMIM, including its president, Agat Mayor Kevin Susuico, are seeking reelection this year.

“When everything goes back to normal we can pursue our activities again,” Apatang said.

As for the AMIM “Konferencian Dinana Islas Marianas,” which is supposed to be held on Pagan, he said lack of funding is also an issue.

“With this current situation, it’s hard,” he added.

The Pagan conference aims to discuss cultural chants, traditional herbal practice, beliefs and folklore, local anthems, language, customs, values, traditional art forms, inter-/intra-bartering, trade and commerce.
