CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho said the funding will come from the $244 million that the Northern Marianas Housing Corporation received from the federal government through the Community Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program.
Camacho said the funding for the public utility will finance projects involving the three large water tanks that serve Dandan, Kagman and As Matuis; Power Plants 1 and 4; the Tinian Carolinas Heights 5-million water tank; and the Tinian underground power distribution system.
It was NMHC Corporate Director Jesse Palacios who, through a letter, informed Camacho about the grant approval.
Camacho, in turn, informed the CUC board about it on Nov. 12, 2020.
Legal representation
Camacho said CUC is also supporting the Office of the Attorney General’s request for legal representation funding.
“We are very happy with the AG’s office in representing CUC,” he added.
Assistant Attorney General Jose Mafnas Jr. has been “wonderful in helping CUC, and in dealing and guiding our documentation, our procurement process, along with providing legal guidance,” Camacho said.
“So yes, CUC will always support the AG’s office in their request,” he added.
