Opening of Christmas Art exhibit moved to Nov. 22

Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture Arts coordinator for education and festival Parker Y. Yobei said the rescheduling is due to “venue confirmation.”

“We sincerely thank Hyatt Regency Saipan for their assistance to the Arts Council in securing a venue for one of our annual exhibits. We are waiting for their management to finalize and confirm the venue,” Yobei said.

With the date adjustment, they are hopeful more local artists will sign up and participate in the exhibit.

“Our local artists will have more time to prepare their artwork and products to showcase,” Yobei said.

Artists are invited to come and showcase their paintings and photographs, Christmas cards, ornaments, as well as crafts with a Christmas theme to them — for sale or for exhibit.

All items entered will be sold at the rate indicated by the individual artists.

Yobei said the Art Council does not profit from the sales as these exhibits are held only to create a link between the artists and buyers/collectors, and to give the artists the exposure they need.

To register, local artists are  required to bring two photos of themselves and six pictures of their work. Registration is free.

The 2011 Island Artist and Christmas Crafts Exhibit is one of the three major art exhibits hosted by the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture each year. The other two are the Women’s Art Exhibit during the first quarter of the year, and the Cultural Pacifica Arts Exhibit in September.

To register or for more information about the event, visit the Arts Council office next to the post office on Capital Hill or call 322-9982/83.
