Organizer Geri Willis said by the end of the week, the community can buy certain products from designated stores which will be collected and sent to the servicemembers.
“We want our troops to feel that we support them by sending them things to remind them of home, especially with the coming holidays,” Willis said.
She said they will be placing labels on items that have been pre-selected by the CNMI troops, which include Spam, rice crackers, dried mangos, pork rinds, Diamond tuna, Ichiban Soba, BinBin crackers, and other items.
Willis said the community can buy the labeled items from Joeten Susupe, Triple J Super Fresh Market, Price Costco and Fleming’s Store on Tinian.
“The signs should be placed at the respective stores by the end of this week so individuals can purchase the labeled items. Signs will be placed by those items requested by the troopers. After they have checked out, there will be a box to place the items,” Willis said.
Partnering with the Homefront Operation Support for this year’s care packages drive are MCV, the American Red Cross and Rotary Club of Saipan.
Willis said Candice Dunston is the overall in-charge of the packaging of the items for the troops.
She said all the items received will be packaged at the Army Reserve Center on Nov. 28.
“We would appreciate receiving the names and addresses of soldiers who will be away from home during the holidays. Send us their names so everybody would get packages, no matter where they are stationed,” she said.
Willis said last year, they were able to send approximately 240 care packages full of local treats to deployed military soldiers from the CNMI.
“We received a lot of thank you messages from soldiers for the care packages, and we are very grateful to the community for extending their love and support to our military far from home,” she said.
