OVR wants to help more people with disabilities

“We are in full swing, getting up to par with our quarterly figures on how many consumers have achieved employment outcome,” she said.

“OVR understands that some of the “folks may not want to be perceived as people with disabilities, but this is the only way eligibility can be realized,” she added.

OVR serves eligible persons with disabilities who are 16 years old and above, transitioning out of high school and are employable in the CNMI.

The following are some of the questions that anyone can consider for referrals to OVR:

• Does anyone have difficulty walking or climbing stairs?

• Is anyone blind or does anyone has serious difficulty seeing even when wearing glasses?

• Is anyone deaf or does anyone have serious difficulty hearing?

• Because of physical, mental, or emotional condition, does anyone have serious difficulty doing errands alone?

OVR will receive $270,000 under the American Recovery Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The fund, Taitano said, is used to help support people with disabilities in the workforce.

She added, “It is a good chunk of money made available to help boost the economy.”

As of last year, OVR maintained and employed 108 people with disabilities out of the 354 cases it handled.
