Owner denies setting store on fire

James Biao, owner of BL Clothing Store and BL Tailor Shop, told the Variety that the allegation that he intentionally set his store on fire was “not funny.”

Through an interpreter, Biao said he did not plan to burn his store to claim insurance.

But Biao said his store was recently insured for “more or less $400,000.”

Biao said he could not recall the total amount of new clothing that arrived from China as well as the stock in the storage because the invoice was among those burned.

Biao said the inventory of the items will continue today.

Variety was told that arson investigators believe that a man was behind the fire that broke out in Tun Kiku’s building in Garapan.
