KOROR (Palau Horizon) — Belau National Hospital has two new incinerators courtesy of Taiwan.
The Ministry of Health recently unveiled the newly constructed health incinerators which will be used to incinerate waste materials from the hospital and from other government agencies.
Nick Ngwal of BNH said the Taiwan government provided a $450,000 grant for the incinerators and the building housing them.
The hospital’s old incinerator, although still functioning, needs repair since it is leaking.
Ngwal said the old incinerator is only being used once a week.
He said the two new incinerators emit less fumes which make them safer. The new machines can incinerate old tires without emitting toxic fumes or smoke, the Ministry of Health said.
