KOROR (Palau Horizon) — Palau has prepared a plan to develop and improve its response to public health emergencies caused by bio-terrorism.
Public Health Director Caleb Otto said the plan is in line with what was discussed during the Pacific Island Health Officers Association meeting last month in Majuro.
One of the issues discussed during the meeting was global bio-terrorism. The United States government will allocate at least $2.5 million in anti-bio-terrorism funds for its six affiliated jurisdictions in the Pacific, including the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Palau submitted its plan to the U.S. and has asked for at least $200,000 . The Marshall Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia and the CNMI will benefit from the funds.
The meeting also discussed what association should be doing in the next five to 10 years.
