The cribs were distributed starting in 2005 until earlier this year and second hand cribs made by Generation 2 Worldwide are also sold on ebay.com and other online shopping Web sites.
In an e-mail to members of Babycenter.org, an online forum for parents and pregnant women worldwide, CPSC said: “All Generation 2 Worldwide and Childesign drop-side cribs are included in this recall, including those with other model numbers. The crib’s plastic hardware can break, allowing the crib’s drop side to detach from a corner of the crib. When the drop side detaches, it creates a dangerous space that a young child can get trapped in, possibly causing the child to suffocate.”
CPCS said it does not have more information and cannot further trace where most of the Generation 2 Worldwide cribs are since the company went out of business on 2005.
But parents are advised to immediately stop using the recalled crib and contact the store where they bought the crib to find out whether the store will give a refund, a replacement crib, or store credit.
The recall was made after the agency received three infant death reports associated with the cribs.
