DIVISION of Parks and Recreation Director Mike Cruz has expressed his appreciation to lawmakers who allotted a total of $23,500 for three community projects.
“Three weeks ago, we refurbished the Paupau beach playground equipment, and then we added swings, a balancer, and monkey bars. It’s completed. We received appropriation from Precinct 4 Reps. Malcolm Omar and Joel Camacho,” Cruz said.
“I want to thank them for assisting Parks and Rec to continue our work in giving back to the community, and I want the community to think safety first when utilizing the playground,” he added.
He said Parks and Rec has also completed renovating the Tanapag Basketball Court and the Chalan Kanoa District 2 Basketball Court behind the former Joeten store.
“Funding for the renovation of the Tanapag basketball court was part of the appropriation provided by the two good representatives from Precinct 4,” Cruz added.
“The basketball court is complete, and the whole place has been refurbished. Everyone from the community is welcome to utilize the basketball court. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Tanapag or Dandan — come over and utilize the court. This is for everyone to use. We just need to make sure that no one vandalizes the area. When it is vandalized, we need again to spend money to maintain it, and that’s taxpayer money,” Cruz said.
He also thanked Precinct 2 Reps. John Paul Sablan and Manny Castro “for always supporting our activities at the beaches, parks and recreational areas. Without them, I don’t think the renovation and refurbishing of the CK basketball court was possible. It was completed Tuesday.”
Cruz reiterated that “the facilities are for everyone to use, but please, please don’t vandalize the basketball courts.”
