Pastor offers message of forgiveness after church burglary

Since the burglaries, church services have been held outside the building, Pastor Dan Basaldua said.

The church, which has over 100 members, moved into the building in 2007.

Basaldua estimated that between 400 and 500 lbs. of power line were taken by the burglars, who left behind the drum set and keyboards.

Members of the church held their Christmas banquet outdoors last week.

“We’ve also been able to get by with the remaining equipment but it’s not the same,” Basaldua said.

Forgiveness, he added, is important.

“I have told the church members that we must forgive those who perpetrated this crime, because the Bible says if we want to be forgiven we must forgive,” he said.

The church was first burglarized last June, losing valuable items to the thieves.

Basaldua said members of the community should also protect themselves from these “unfortunate events.”

“We must do what we can to protect ourselves from  crime. We all know that economic times are tough. Every one has had difficulties making ends meet. But we must not turn to thievery and doing harm to our neighbor,” he added.
