PATA will hold monthly teleconference

TO boost the marketing of “Magnificent Micronesia,” a regular teleconference among tourism authorities in the Pacific islands, including the CNMI, will be held every month, the Pacific Asia Travel Association said.

PATA secretary and former Guam Sen. John C. Salas said more frequent communication is necessary to overcome the location gap between members.

“We all agreed as a chapter that we’d continue to have monthly conferences so we’d be able to reach the remotest of place,” Salas said.

He said the teleconference will be held among committee members who will then communicate with their respective members.

During the recent quarterly meeting on Saipan, PATA members decided to launch an intensive marketing campaign overseas.

Salas said PATA will continue with the marketing concept of Magnificent Micronesia.

“We’ll all go together to promote the region rather than the individual destinations,” he said.

He said PATA members will be present in major trade expositions worldwide to promote the region.

“A group of people will represent us in Australia for the Pacific trade exposition. Some people are going to a diving show in Berlin. Members that are going will represent us, the whole region, not just some islands,” he said.

To be self-sufficient, PATA encouraged its current members to refer five new members.

PATA has 87 members at present.

PATA is a network of regional tourism operators, government tourist offices, airlines, hotels, travel agencies and related companies.

The organization provides marketing, research and educational opportunities to member agencies.

PATA has five key committees: marketing, services, education, finance and membership development and special projects, chapter affairs and partnership.
