PDM Promoters, volunteers haul in over 1.2K lbs of trash

Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters Inc. said 46 individuals — Saipan Awaodori Team members, their parents, PDM staffers and some volunteers under the leadership of PDM Promoters president Misako Kamata — picked up trash from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday.

“This is the biggest amount of trash we have collected so far —so much trash was brought by the rain,” Siwa said.

She said  each month, they regularly collect from 300 to 500 lbs of trash.

“A lot of plastics and other trash were washed up by the rain over the weekend,” Siwa said. They also collected a lot of junk tires.

Last month, Siwa said  they turned over to the Division of Environmental Quality all the trash they collected as they joined the islandwide cleanup in celebration of Environmental Awareness month.

Siwa said that PDM Promoters Inc. continues to thank volunteers who join the monthly cleanup which they initiate every first or second Saturday of each month.

“PDM Promoters Inc. would like to maintain a clean and green environment especially around the Garapan area which is the center for tourist activities. We are urging everybody to help us maintain the cleanliness of the area so we can attract more tourists, and keep them coming back,” Siwa said.
