Pedro Sablan gets 15 years for sexual abuse of a DYS ward

Wiseman also ordered Sablan to pay a $10,000 fine, a $100 court assessment fee, and restitution for the victim’s medical and psychological needs to be determined by the Adult Probation Office.

Sablan admitted the charge of one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree.

The victim was under 16 when the abuse occurred on or about June to July this year. Sablan admitted having sex with the victim three to four instances.

The Attorney General’s Office charged Sablan with four counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree.

Assistant Attorney General Russel Lorfing prosecuted the case.

The AGO, the Department of Public Safety,  the U.S. Attorney’s  Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted an investigation into this matter, Variety was told.

Sablan was arrested in August.

Wiseman originally sentenced Sablan to 30 years, all suspended except for 15 years, and credited time served after his arrest three months ago.

Wiseman denied Assistant Public Defender Matthew Meyer’s request to allow his client to start serving his sentence in Jan. 2012.

Wiseman directed Sablan, currently out on bail, to report to the Department of Corrections on Dec. 16, 2011.

Wiseman said Sablan should ask Corrections for humanitarian consideration for the holidays.

According to the judge, he reluctantly accepted the plea agreement.

Wiseman ordered Sablan’s registration as a sex offender for lifetime. He will not have any contact with his victim or any minor during the period of 10 years’ probation.

In the signed plea agreement, Sablan said he will cooperate completely with the investigation and prosecution of co-workers concerning their criminal activities, and will testify truthfully in any trial or administrative hearing against his colleagues.
