Peleliu super dispensary opens

KOROR (Palau Horizon) — The newly opened Peleliu State super dispensary will also provide health services to Angaur State and Southwest Islands.

Dr. Caleb Otto, the Bureau of Public Health director, said the super dispensary is the last of the community health centers built in outlying areas.

Otto said the completion of the super dispensary is “quite a major milestone,” and will step up clinical and public health services in Peleliu, Angaur and Southwest States.

There are existing small dispensaries in Peleliu and Angaur, but the super dispensary will be able to provide expanded health services since it will be manned by nurses and doctors.

According to Otto, the Ministry of Health will complete the construction of a main community health center in Koror which will be located in the old public health building.

Otto said the super dispensary is a national project. The construction began in 2000, and it took awhile to built the super dispensary since the government still had to find a location for the center.

There are super dispensaries in Ngerchelong which also take care of patients in Ngaraad and Kayangel.

There is also a super dispensary in Melekeok which serves Ngiwal and Ngchesar. The super dispensary in Ngeremlengui takes care of patients in Ngardmau and Ngatpang.

The community health center to be built in Koror will also provide services to Aimeliik and Airai residents.
