Consul General Medardo Macaraig said of the 142, 75 were ePassport applicants, 42 Overseas Workers Welfare Administration members and 11 sought a travel exit clearance or an Overseas Employment Certificate.
“Overall, it was a successful operation,” Macaraig said, as he thanked Rota Mayor Melchor Mendiola and wife Estrella for the support provided to the consulate team.
The consular services were available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Northern Marianas College Rota campus.
Macaraig also expressed appreciation for NMC, the Filipino Community of Rota led by Alejandro Badiles, parish priest Fr. Delfin Tumaca, the parish pastoral council of San Francisco De Borja Church and to all Rota residents.
The consular team was headed by Macaraig and included labor representative Carmelina Velasquez, Nerisa Anastacio, Rowena Tolosa, Antonio David and Christopher Anastacio.
“A number of Filipinos on Rota also assisted the consulate during the conduct of consular services,” Macaraig said.
He said they have now served all the three major islands of the Northern Marianas with the new ePassport technology.
He said they will consider more consular services on Tinian and Rota in the future.
The consular team left Saipan on Friday evening and, just like the rest of the people on Rota, waited on high ground during the tsunami alert.
