Amid cheering from excited and hopeful “duck owners” at PIC’s Lazy River, the rubber duck number 624 bought by Conchita Palacios beat the other 1,557 rubber ducks sold for this fundraising event.
PIC sports manager Lindsey Sosovec said the duck race raised $7,790.
Each duck was sold at $5.
“The duck race was an overwhelming success, and I am thankful for the support of the community,” Sosovec said.
She added that Ella Babuata was the lead seller among the clubmates, selling over 120 ducks, while Glenn Policare, Cole Pritchard and Sosovec herself sold over 700 rubber ducks.
Sosovec said they will be doing it again in the future.
“Hopefully, next year would be a bigger and better event,” she said.
The organizers’ target was to sell 2,009 rubber ducks.
The rubber duck race started at the point break slide of the PIC Lazy River, and the rubber ducks had to complete one revolution in the Lazy River.
Sosovec said she couldn’t thank the community enough for helping them raise funds for the CNMI Cancer Association.
Previous fundraising campaigns included luminary sales, coin drives, serving hot lunches, car wash activities, bake sales and other events.
