PNG opposition: Somare too old, must resign

Their reason was that there was rife corruption, a breach of the constitution and poor service delivery by the current government which the prime minister was not aware of while he was doing things on an adhoc basis.

“Now is the time to change the government and Sir Michael must resign,” the opposition said during a press conference at Parliament.

Adding to the call, leader of the opposition Mekere Morauta said the country and its systems would collapse if the prime minister was allowed to continue running the country under the current trend.

“It is for the betterment of the country and the people that the prime minister must resign,” Morauta said.

Deputy opposition leader Bart Philemon said corruption was strangling the systems of the country.

“Not long the country will collapse,” Philemon said.
